treadling action is the result of a carefully designed jack mechanism.
Jacks push up each harness independently at the outer edges, giving a
mechanical advantage and a balanced lift. Nylon rollers at the contact
point between lamm and harness glide harnesses upward and piano felt dampens
the sound when they return. When the shed is open, both raised ends and
resting ends have the same tension.
The
cloth beam worm drive system is the ultimate in regulating warp
tension. Finite adjustment is possible through the continuous thread which
winds around the beam. You will have no difficulty producing the tension
you need as 10 pounds of pressure at the handle delivers 500 pounds on
the warp effortlessly. If the worm gear drive option is not selected,
fine adjustment is obtained with the 32
tooth bronze ratchet and pawl. Individually turned wooden handles on the
cloth beam are polished to fit comfortably in your hand.
The warp beam tension is controlled by a friction brake which is adjustable
using a turnbuckle. It is easily released with a brake pedal, releasing
the warp gradually, never too much. Included is a 2/3 yard warping beam
which may be sectionalized on 2" spacing with wooden pegs or 1"
with brass rods. It's convertible back to a plain beam by reversing the
slats. An optional 1 yard sectional beam is also available. Both beams
are fitted with a detachable brass crank.
A double beam warping system can be added equipped with independent brake and pedal
release. Warp ends going to this beam spread across a removable back beam which mounts in
front of and slightly below the main beam.
Barefoot
weavers appreciate the smooth treadles with rounded edges. Our
unique slots make it apparent which harnesses are connected to each treadle.
Tie up cords fit snugly and are pushed in and out without untying knots.
Two more treadles than harnesses are standard. You may elect two more
treadles and up to four extra treadles depending on the loom size.
For those who wish to weave tapestries, we can add treadle
locks for the two center treadles to keep the shed open. If you have
short legs, trelevators
can be clipped to the treadles, raising the treadle plane 2 1/2" for an
easier reach.
The beater is assembled with metal fasteners and triangulated gussets
to insure its rigidity and alignment. Though heavy enough for general
weaving, an attachable weight can be added under the lower reed frame
for rug weaving or very high tension weaving. It comes with one stainless
steel reed and a "beater stop" to lock it in an upright position
for sleying. Single and double box fly
shuttles are available.

To personalize your loom, provide us with an idea or design and we'll
carve the beater bar or castle for
you.
The steel heddles have an exceptionally large inserted eye for smoothness,
strength and visibility. Included with the loom are: 40" - 750, 48"
- 1000, 54" - 1250, 60" - 1500.
Jack looms come in four widths, 40", 48", 54" and 60"
with 4, 8, 10 or 12 harnesses. Each loom is meticulously hand sanded and
rubbed with an oil mixture to let the grain speak for itself.
Now available for jack looms is the New Air Assist.
Use the energy of compressed air to make lifting multipe shafts effortless. See description under "What's New".
